![]() LIPA Dance Presents...The Classics 17,18 & 19 November 2011 The Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts DANCE: LIPA DANCE PRESENTS…THE CLASSICS (Paul McCartney Auditorium, LIPA) Third-year dancers take a unique look at those prominent creations and individuals from the arts world that have withstood the test of time and the fickle finger of fashion. The Classics is a fresh collection of original dance pieces created by professional choreographers who’ve used these shining, enduring strands from different cultural fabrics as their creative launch pad. You’ll see elements and fusions of ballet, commercial, contemporary, jazz and tap. Suitable for all the family. The Saturday matinee is followed by a 20-minute Q&A session for prospective dance students and other interested parties. Sarah E Baker, LIPA’s head of dance, along with students from the cast and the design and technical team, will host this session. One of the institute’s most popular productions each year, this seasonal show is performed by students from different disciplines. See the historic Paul McCartney Auditorium transformed into a gallery of installations inspired by the work of the surrealist master. The exhibition is the culmination of a first-year project that draws on design and technology students’ skills in the areas of model making, lighting, and scenic construction and painting. They have explored Dalí’s eclectic oeuvre to conceive and build, in LIPA’s stagecraft workshop, large-scale pieces that attempt to capture the essence of his art, for you to examine and enjoy. From 10.30am-6pm on Tuesday 13th and 10am-2pm on Wednesday 14th. ![]() A Streetcar Named Desire 23 - 25 February 2012 The Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts THEATRE: A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (Paul McCartney Auditorium, LIPA, Liverpool, February 23-25 2012) In this Pulitzer Prize-winning American play of 1947, Blanche DuBois arrives unexpectedly on the doorstep of her sister, Stella, in a vibrant corner of post-war New Orleans. A fading Southern belle, Blanche immediately clashes with Stella’s volatile husband, Stanley. But when he starts to delve into his sister-in-law’s past he makes shocking discoveries that set them on a violent collision course. As the sound of jazz penetrates the night air, Blanche’s hold on reality begins to fade along with her chances of finding the love she craves. Performed by third-year Acting students. Adult content.
