FESTIVE FAIR TAKES EDGE HILL STATION BACK TO VICTORIAN TIMES
O come all ye faithful to Metal at Edge Hill Station for their annual Victorian Christmas Fair. T’is the season to be jolly and this fabulously festive afternoon of arts, crafts, food and family activities is no exception as history winds right back to where it all began for the world’s oldest passenger railway station on Sat 10 December from 12-4pm.
With everything from old-fashioned stalls to Santa’s Grotto, real Victorian costumes and even some mulled wine and mince pies, this is the perfect way to start your festive season, with cosy comforts of a bygone time.
Traditional stalls offer an array of enticing treats from the local community and professionals alike, including craft and gift stalls, fundraising stalls including Kensington Fields Community Centre, the memorial garden of St Stevens Church and the RSPB, face painting and special children’s craft stalls provided by Craft Creative. There will also be food, drink and other festive treats including a brass band and Victorian choir on hand to make sure that this is a nostalgic Christmas treat for the whole family to enjoy.
On the day, the Edge Hill Archive will also be open, showcasing the station’s significance to the local community, Liverpool and the UK. An historic landmark, where Stephenson’s ‘Rocket’ first left for Manchester, Edge Hill possesses a proud history of technological innovation and aspiration. Following over three years of collecting hundreds of interesting stories, memories and insights about the station as well as objects, photographs and memorabilia which will be on display for all to see.
It’s also a perfect opportunity to grab your own copy of the limited edition Edge Hill Station: An Unfolding History, a collection of limited edition books that begin to chronicle the history of Edge Hill, the world’s oldest passenger railway and the people and places that have shaped it.
