PRIEST and Q&A with Jimmy McGovern

Monday 1st March 2010
7pm at Picturehouse@FACT
CLAPPERBOARD PRESENTS…
PRIEST and Q & A with award winning writer Jimmy McGovern.
Clapperboard Presents... local award winning Writer and Producer Jimmy McGovern, returns for a screening of his powerful drama Priest starring Linus Roache, Tom Wilkinson, Robert Carlyle, Cathy Tyson, Lesley Sharp, Robert Pugh, Christine Tremarco and James Ellis. Jimmy will be present at FACT to partake in a Q and A session following the screening.
Father Greg Pilkington is torn between his call as a conservative Catholic priest and his secret life as a homosexual and his gay lover, frowned upon by the Church. Upon hearing the confession of a young girl and her incestuous father, Greg enters into an intensely emotional spiritual struggle deciding between choosing morals over religion and one life over another
The Liverpool born writer/producer started his career on channel 4’s soap Brookside. He then went on to create the hugely popular drama series Cracker starring Robbie Coltrane in 1993 which aired on ITV and over in America. In 2006 he created the award winning BBC drama The Street, which ran for three series and more recently Moving On for BBC daytime TV.
Jimmy said “I’m a great admirer of Maureen Sinclair and what she has achieved through her dedication and commitment to the Clapperboard Youth Project, with very little funding. It’s a wonderful creative way of empowering young people and giving them an opportunity that most of us never had”.
Jimmy has won numerous awards during his career including a BAFTA for Best Drama Series for the Street two years in a row. Best Single Drama for Hillsborough and two Writers Guild of Britain awards for Hillsborough and Cracker.
Maureen Sinclair, Clapperboard creator and director said “I was very privileged to have organised the Liverpool premiere of Jimmy’s first controversial feature, Priest. It’s wonderful that sixteen year’s later we’re screening it as part of Clapperboard presents... with Jimmy participating in a Q and A”.
Clapperboard Presents… is a new initiative by Maureen Sinclair to raise funds for the Clapperboard Youth Project. It is also an excellent opportunity for new and established media and creative players to network ideas and show support which benefits all. Income raised from Clapperboard Presents... will go toward the Clapperboard Youth Project.
