PHYSICAL FEST 2011
PHYSICAL FEST DOUBLE BILL PERFORMANCE
Tmesis Theatre, organisers of Physical Fest, are delighted to announce an exciting physical theatre double bill performance featuring acclaimed physical theatre companies Theatre Ad Infinitum and Scottish Dance Theatre.
The performance will take place at Liverpool’s Unity Theatre on Tuesday 31st May at 8pm.
Multi Award Winning, Lecoq trained ensemble Theatre Ad Infinitum will present their piece ‘The Big Smoke’; a poetic piece of physical theatre inspired by the lives and works of Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, and Anne Sexton, which first opened to great critical acclaim at Pleasance Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010. Nathalie has everything to live for, good looks, talent, a loving family, amazing scholarships and a career just waiting to take off. But just as she is rising to the heights of her potential, she begins to spiral down into the depths of depression; the unsettling descent into madness unfolds. A trailer for The Big Smoke can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8UnMwAMEQA&feature=player_embedded.
In the second performance of the evening, Toby Fitzgibbons and Matthew Robinson of the renowned Scottish Dance Theatre will present a Northwest premiere of their first choreographic collaboration 'Some Other Future.’
Two boys’ dreams collide behind the iron curtain. How much are we made of what we wanted to be?
Co-Choreographer and performer Matthew Robinson Explains... “Some Other Future' is a work that, from our experience, people interpret in many unique ways. It encourages you to involve yourself without telling you what you should experience. It grew from our common interest in politics and the cycle of change, from in depth discussion and from our commonly held ideals. It places two boys in an uncertain environment, where their dreams slowly emerge through carefully chosen objects. It asks how much we are made of the dreams of our childhood in an environment which shifts between playful, intimidating and dangerous.” You can see a trailer here.
Festival Organiser Elinor Randle/Yorgos Karamalengos of Tmesis Theatre said ‘We’re delighted to have Theatre Ad Infinitum performing and teaching as part of Physical Fest 2011. They’re such an exhilaratingly talented company and we can’t wait to see them in action and to learn from their Lecoq inspired physical theatre style. So much of this year’s festival is focused on developing a practitioners own physical theatre style and unique expressions. It’s going to be really interesting to see Matthew and Toby of Scottish Dance Theatre’s performance as it will be dance based, somewhat more lyrical than Theatre Ad Infinitum’s piece and, as Matthew mentioned in his quote, the work is interpreted in so many different ways its quite exciting to see how practitioners and members of the public in the audience perceive it and take it with them when they leave the theatre – making you think is what Physical Fest is all about!’
The only festival of its kind in Europe, Physical Fest is organised by Tmesis Theatre and brings the world's best local, national and international movement and physical theatre artists to Liverpool in an exciting 8 day programme of events, workshops, taster classes and performances.
