Liverpool’s Laughterhouse Comedy

Liverpool’s Laughterhouse Comedy expands to Yorkshire.
Friday 30th July 2010
Scarborough Open Air Theatre
The success of Liverpool’s top comedy club the Laughterhouse shows no signs of slowing down as it expands beyond Merseyside, exporting its largest show to date to the perfect venue - Europe’s biggest open air theatre!
Scarborough Open Air Theatre in North Yorkshire has an amazing long history that dates as far back as the 1930’s, when it hosted lavish musicals, opera and theatre productions that attracted thousands of people every night during warm summer evening when British seaside resorts were at their peak. By 1952 the Open Air had attracted 1.5 million people, and the casts of performers alone could range up to 200.
Now, on Friday the 30th of July, Laughterhouse Comedy have organized an amazing 9-act live show that promises to be one of the highlight of the summer and a revival to the theatre’s great past.
The theatre still retains his original charm, built on the site of Hodgson's Slack that thanks to the ground contours creates a natural amphitheatre. The live stage is set on an island in the middle of a lake opposite facing the audience.
Liverpool’s Laughterhouse Comedy director Paula Harrington believes the theatre is one of the best venues for live comedy.
“Shows at the Scarborough are absolutely brilliant in the summer” she says “I am very pleased to bring our shows there. The audience can enjoy a summer evening outdoors with a drink watching some great live comedy live comedy on a floating stage- it hardly gets any better! We booked top-class acts for the event and I have no doubt it will be an evening to remember, both for the public and for us that have organized it”
Paula Harrington founded the Laughterhouse House Comedy in 2008 and in just 2 years brought it to be Liverpool’s top live comedy club, booking some of the best stand –up comedians in the industry which regularly sell-out some city’s top live comedy venues such as the Slaughterhouse, the Slug and Lettuce and has recently also taken over Lenny’s Bar and Smoke Grill in Sir Thomas Street.
On the 30th of July, the lucky audience at the Scarborough Open Theatre will have the chance to see award winning comedian, acclaimed producer, writer and musician Phil Nichol; Jack Whitehall, the very young and already rising comedy star who already has an impressive comedy CV that includes writing and presenting Big Brother’s Big Mouth and hosting Never Mind the Buzzcocks Stewart Lee, who directed the Mighty Boosh's breakthrough Edinburgh show “Arctic Boosh”, Richard Herring, author of the hugely successful riposte to The Vagina Monologues “Talking Cock”, Radio 4’s funny lady Shappi Khorsandi and super sharp, brilliantly unpredictable Writers Guild award winner Reginald D Hunter, with 8 out of 10 cats’ Alun Cochrane to host the show.
The tickets for this fantastic night are steal, ranging from £15 to £25. Tickets can be booked on the Laughterhouse brand new website www.laughterhousecomedy.com, where you can also find live clips of the artist!
The show starts at 19.00 pm but the doors open at 18.00 pm so make sure you get there on time.
