King Pandion offers his daughter’s hand in marriage to King Tereus of Thrace, parting Procne from her beloved sister, Philomele. Procne demands their reunion; but when Tereus’ affection turns to Philomele, a bloody cycle of violence and retribution begins.Tereus’ attempts to silence Philomele bring about further vengeance that only the Gods can cease.

Timberlake Wertenbaker’s modern classic reinterprets ancient Greece in a heartbreaking tale of lust, sisterhood and revenge.

Performed by third-year Acting students.

Helen Stewart - the fast-tracked, idealistic, new wing Governor - battles the old guard of prison officers as she tries to make reforms. Tensions come to a head as her chief opponent, officer Jim Fenner, is implicated in the death of an inmate.

Based on the popular ITV drama series, this witty musical tells the story of the bitter and underhand power struggle in Larkhall Prison, as Helen falls in love with charismatic prisoner Nikki Wade.

Performed by LIPA students from different years of study and disciplines.

Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales

Follow the breadcrumbs, step into the dark and eerie depths of Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales. Philip Wilson takes Pullman’s well-known (and not-so-known) fairy tales, retelling classic stories in a macabre, skin-creeping stage version that bursts with theatricality to disturb and delight.

Incorporating magical puppetry and bold physicality, Grimm Tales will thrill you with perilous tales from childhood, and leave you exhilarated by their capacity to continue to enchant and amaze.

Performed by third-year Acting students.

Red and Black

The Spanish Civil War inspired art like no other, leaving a powerful legacy of poetry, painting, music and film. Red and Black vividly depicts how Liverpool responded.

This ambitious production features over 100 of our dancers, actors, musicians, community drama performers and facilitators, who will take the audience out on to the streets to tell this moving account of Liverpool’s history.

Red and Black is produced in partnership with Slung Low, who are renowned for making adventures for audiences outside conventional theatre spaces. No strangers to Liverpool, in 2010 they performed the award winning Anthology and in 2011 Finale to mark the demolition of the original Everyman Theatre.

Performed by second-year Acting, Applied Theatre & Community Drama, Dance and Music students.
