Winning by four shots after a superb final round. 17-20 July 2008Royal Birkdale Golf ClubSouthport is delighted to host, once again, the most prestigious golf tournament in the world, when the 137th Open Championship which returns in July for the ninth time to Royal Birkdale Golf Club on the north west coast of England. Royal Birkdale is, for many, simply the greatest course to have staged The Open Championship. This famous challenging links course last hosted the Open Championship in July 1998 when Mark O’Meara beat Brian Watts in a play off. Visitors to the 2008 Championship will continue to be impressed with the improvements to the course and clubhouse. The golfing digest ranking of the top 100 best courses positions Royal Birkdale 18th outside of the USA. Practice days are from 13-16 July, with the Championship running from 17-20 July.
