Rockin' for Autism

Friday 23 July 2010
Chameleon Bar, Liverpool
A gig has been organised in Chameleon Bar in Liverpool, from 6.30pm till 3.00am on Friday 23rd July, to raise money for the National Autistic Society (NAS), the UK's leading charity for people affected by autism, their parents and carers.
Jill Hampson from Wavertree was driven to organise the event because her sister Lynn from Mossley Hill has a five-year-old son, Matthew, who has autism.
Local bands Matchstickmen and Dan Elson & the Rhythm Pixies will top the bill which will also feature The Lees and Mechanical Spaniard. There will also be a date auction and an amazing array of raffle prizes for people to win, including a flying lesson, guitar equipment, clothing, a hair cut, and theatre tickets. Around 350 people are expected to attend the event, and tickets cost only £6.00.
Jill said: "Matthew was diagnosed with autism when he was about three and a half years old. It was a bewildering time for my sister and she got a lot of help from the NAS, attending help! programmes that gave her a lot of information and advice.
"Organising this event is my way of giving something back to the charity. Hopefully we will raise lots of money that will go to help other people like my nephew. Please come down and support us - there are some great local bands playing and it looks to be a great night out."

Steve Cheshire, NAS Head of Fundraising, said: "This looks like an excellent night and I am sure everyone that goes along will enjoy themselves, as well as raising money for us too! Autism affects around one in a hundred people in the UK and, although it is a lifelong condition, the right services at the right time can make an enormous difference to people's lives. As a charity, we are dependent on the support of fundraisers. Thanks so much to Jill for organising this event."
