Space Invaders: Art and the Computer Game Environment
Gallery 1, 2, Media Lounge & Public Spaces
17 December – 21 February
FREE
Space Invaders: Art and the Computer Game Environment explores the
increasingly blurred boundaries between videogame spaces and real spaces. It
features artists using games as a medium and subject (Blast Theory, Bill Viola,
Cao Fei, Ludic Society and more) alongside playable, commercial games that
push the limits of the medium. Space Invaders is part of a season of gaming at
FACT. The season includes interactive games events, competitions and a gamethemed
film programme.

We all play games, computer games, power games, competitive games. Game
playing is part of everyday life. We tactically choose actions to maximise returns.
Games explore the relationship between the real and the virtual space.
tenantspin invite you to ask the questions, how far can this virtual world of games
shape our reality, our health and well-being, our values and beliefs? Do games
have the potential to empower us or change our lives? Could the virtual games
we play today become the reality of tomorrow?

Kasparov lost to a computer. The screening will be followed by an engaging talk
and analysis with Professor David Robertson, Liverpool academic and worldclass
chess impresario, who helped organise Liverpool's hugely successful EU
chess tournament in 2008.
